'I’m looking for the unexpected. I’m looking for the things I have never seen before.' Robert Mapplethorpe

Xavier Hufkens is pleased to present an exhibition of the early work by legendary American artist Robert Mapplethorpe in the new gallery space in rue Saint Georges, Brussels. This is a show that will enchant Mapplethorpe connoisseurs – through the one off quality of the polaroid works and the chance to see the earliest seeds of lifelong friendships in the silver gelatin prints. The works equally introduce the novice and enthusiast to Mapplethorpe’s compelling and compulsive oeuvre, marked by extremes of elegance and grace.

MISERICORDIA SUMMER 2014 COLLECTION

Back in 2003, Aurelyen, then a young French artist, travels the world in search of artistic inspirations and decides to move to Peru. In the slums of Lima, he meets a small team of sewers and initiates with them a revolutionary project that combines artistic creation and social commitment. The success of Misericordia on the international stage is immediate. Over the years, our studio grows and becomes La Cabaña de Alta Costura Misericordia, a vast laboratory of creation and production in which a team of 40 people manufactures with passion the Misericordia collections.

Aurelyen, who lives halfway between France and Peru, is now a recognized designer. He designs all the collections, mixing the strong tendencies of the season with chic and timeless basics. Misericordia’s wardrobe focuses on fetish pieces punctuated with the desires of the moment. Sophistication and comfort are the hallmarks of our style. We choose each raw material through a local sourcing enabling us to develop high quality garments and help stimulate the country economy. That is why Tanguïs and Pima cottons, Modal, baby alpaca or organic cotton are Misericordia’s lighthouses materials.

Misericordia is also a project with a strong artistic dimension combining drawingphotographycinema, designpoetrymusic and travel. Our mission is to promote the Latin American art scene through our collections, our campaigns and films. We regularly work with leading names in fashionart and design, with whom we share the same vision: Kris Van AsscheBernard WillhemLutzStephan Schneider, the designer matali crassetABICI or the eyewear manufacturer Waiting For The Sun.

Misericordia collections are sold alongside the best international designers in over 120 prestigious shops worldwide: Le Bon Marche, Colette, Le 66 Champs Elysees, Harvey Nichols, Isetan ...

SWATCH BREAKS THE SURFACE WITH SCUBA LIBRE

Swatch surfaces with a new look on life and a Scuba watch with a difference: it’s not just for divers, it’s for the rest of us, too. As we sail the streets of a gridlocked city, board a submarine subway for a storm-tossed ride home, or take the wheel of a sloop in downtown Manhattan, there’s no limit to the power of our imagination when unleashed by passion and the new Scuba Libre from Swatch .
The new Scuba Libre Collection does give water fans what they want, of course. Big, bold indicators in high-contrast colours are easy to read when swimming with the fish in the wonder of life undersea. Hands-on, rotating bezels and snug, rugged silicone straps do the rest.

But for visionaries on dry land, it’s the look that counts – sexy and sea-worthy at the same time. So three of the new models open up the dial to show coloured movements in translucent cases, and the eye-candy colours are trending now, too. And for the urban gentleman who’s secretly mad about the sea, more models speak openly of his passion. Brash, competent and supremely confident, a real sailor knows what he wants – and gets it, underwater and above.

GIVENCHY BY RICCARDO TISCI

The Spring pre-collection strengthens Givenchy’s signature male wardrobe. It is infused with a Latin influence for Latin men are not afraid of mixing prints seemingly at odds or layering contrasting pieces making such looks cool and stylish. The silhouette exhales relaxed sportswear and sensual tailoring creating a newfound elegance.

“Favelas 74” sums up Riccardo Tisci’s obsession of the Latin world. It is another expression of streetwear and urban culture. This season he revisits natural elegance and gender blending. Vivid combinations of prints from flowers and camouflage prints to roses and checks offer a new take on the feminine and the masculine. They create joyful patchworks where bright, dark and faded versions interact with each other. Placed prints and intricate cuts reveal graphic compositions.

All Givenchy classics from t-shirts, sweatshirts, bermudas, kilts and parkas alternate with elaborate tailoring and shirting. A wool and mohair grain de poudre tuxedo features satin ottoman incrusted lapels. A light camouflage cotton poplin shirt shows sleeves in classic blue stripes. Reversible nylon car coats play with colorful inside and faded outside and vice versa.

For the first time, a bag collection completes clothes and shoes. Travel bags, small bags and zipped clutches are made of black matte calf, camouflage, flower or flame printed nappa or braided multicolored leather. They add a touch of sophistication to urban silhouettes.
