he rolls out of bed and into a new day,
comfortable in his universe.
feeling through the dark before the sun rises,
instinct guides him.
a mirror reveals nothing more than he knew already -
textures shifting across the body, as colours mute in the early light.
easing the door shut and padding softly into the day, a hood protects his thoughts.
he moves quietly through the city enduring its mayhem, the lone witness to his own quiet victories.
night falls and he keeps marching, lured underground by the beating drums.
shedding layers of cloth, he dances. cathartic ritual takes over.
a calm returns as the music fades. the traveler returns to his bed, to sleep again.
in the morning,
as the phoenix,
so rises the material boy.
