Devendra Banhart’s Mala.

© Ana Kras
Devendra Banhart releases his Nonesuch debut, Mala, on March 12, 2013. The singer/songwriter co-produced the record with his longtime bandmate, guitarist Noah Georgeson. Spring tour dates will be announced soon. Mala may be pre-ordered now on CD and vinyl at nonesuch.com and includes: a limited-edition, autographed print; an instant download of the album track “Für Hildegard von Bingen”; and a download of the complete album available starting release day. The Mala LP is pressed on 140-gram vinyl and includes the album on CD, an additional 7” with two bonus tracks, and an exclusive poster.

Mala, Banhart’s eighth studio album, was recorded in his then-home in Los Angeles. (He now resides in New York City.) He and Georgeson played most of the instruments themselves, using borrowed equipment and a recorder they had found in a pawn shop. The recorder is a couple of decades’ old piece of gear “that a lot of early hip-hop had been made on,” says Banhart. “And knowing my songs are not hip-hop whatsoever, we thought it would be interesting to see how these kinds of songs would sound on equipment that was used to record our favorite rap. Let’s see how this technology would work for us.”

Jane Birkin sings serge Gainsbourg VIA JAPAN

Jane Birkin was the muse and lover of Serge Gainsbourg and became world famous for their duet "Je t'aime moi non plus" and the controversy that followed.

After the death of Gainsbourg stepped Birkin among spotlights to come to focus on writing and her ceaseless work for humanitarian charities. At the request of fans, however, she took the microphone in hand again and took aim at the Gainsbourg-testament to the widest possible audience.

And she did, in the most diverse forms: Serge in pop, Arabesque, for classic quartet, with 14 musicians, with 6 musicians, ... Birkin had everything taken out, so she thought. Until the disaster in Japan took place exactly two years ago, in March 2011: the earthquake, tsunami and nuclear disaster in Fukushima grabbed her so hard that she decided immediately to fly and do where they excel: the repertoire of Serge Gainsbourg new to life. Of these concerts is now a live registration recorded for release. Chante Jane Birkin Serge Gainsbourg "Via Japan" is an adventure that unexpectedly resulted from solidarity for Japan. It is also an opportunity to breathe new life into the magnificent texts of Gainsbourg, with new jazzy and rhythmic arrangements and a setlist of cult songs.

This release is digital only, preorder on iTunes:

Diesel and Edun - A denim collection born in Africa

Diesel and EDUN have joined forces to co-design a new collection that goes beyond fashion.
Inspired by African creativity, the collection is sourced and manufactured in Africa with the finest
CCI (Conservation Cotton Initiative) cotton from Uganda.

The two brands’ rock attitude runs through the collection. Note the biker elements on the jackets,
with their round collars and patched sleeves: these motorcycle influences are inspired by probably
the most popular mode of transportation seen through-out Africa. Decorative stitching is another
important element, including triple stitching on blue denim and jagged red stitching, especially vivid
on white. Buttons continue the sense of detail: a mix of resin and powdered horn, or rough metal
finishing.
