Brussels Design Market
The market devoted entirely to vintage design
Founded in 2002, the Brussels Design Market is a flea market devoted entirely to design with an emphasis on products dating from the 50s to the early 80s. Following its expansion, the 11th edition of the largest post-war design market is organised at Tour & Taxis, in partnership with Art Brussels and Design September.
On Saturday, April 30 and Sunday May 1, hundred exhibitors, professionals and dedicated amateurs, hailing from Belgium, France, the Netherlands, Germany, Austria, Switzerland and Italy will be unpacking furniture and other design objects from the 50s, 60s, 70s and early 80s in the convivial atmosphere of a busy flea market. The event, for the public, dealers and collectors alike will take place in the magnificent, historic setting of the old harbour station at Tour & Taxis, 86c avenue du Port, 1000 Brussels (entrance via the Tour & Taxis site).
Naturally, one has to be an early bird to find the rarer objects as the dealers will get there first. But exhibitors will also be bringing more affordable, if no less beautiful pieces, such as Eames and Panton chairs, Knoll tables, Bertoia armchairs, etc. A treasure trove of finds: you can expect to discover Scandinavian, Belgian, French, Italian ad American furniture alongside ceramics and glassware, collectors pieces and accessories in plastic, metal, wood and Bakelite.

Ab-Fab - The reunion!
Actresses Jennifer Saunders and Joanna Lumley, who portrayed Patsy and Edina on the hit BBC series “Absolutely Fabulous” from 1992 to 1996, are in the final stages of striking a deal to reprise their roles. According to a BBC 1 rep, “We're putting the finishing touches to the deal to bring it back and as soon as we're in a position to confirm it we will.”
According to the Guardian, the pair will film three new episodes of “AbFab” later this year. The pair last assumed the roles on television for a “Comic Relief” special in 2005 on BBC 1.
More recently, Lumley had a recurring role on the BBC series “Mistresses” last year, while Saunders has a regular role on the BBC series “Clatterford.”
A pilot for an American adaptation of the series, starring Kathryn Hahn and Kristen Johnston, was filmed in 2009 but wasn’t picked up as a series.

Get a Life Book- Vivienne Westwood by Juergen Teller’s
Celebrating Juergen Teller’s long-standing relationship with Vivienne Westwood, the new book Get a Life includes glorious photos from Teller’s spring 2010 campaign for Westwood, many of them unseen. This book comes after the photographer’s prior two photo books with the designer, Election Day (2009) and Vivienne Westwood (2008). Get a Life includes shots of Argentinean model Tati Cotliar playing crazy, alongside Westwood herself and a deliberately rough-looking Pamela Anderson. The un-retouched images capture Teller’s inimitable raw aesthetic; in New York’s fall 2008 fashion issue,Teller told us that fashion photography is “so retouched, so airbrushed, without any human response at all, and, well, you don’t really want to fuck a doll.”

BASE DESIGN & SERGE LEBLON - NEW BOOK
After a fruitful collaboration between BaseDesign and Ludion on the catalogue for UltraMegaLore, the recent exhibition of top model Hannelore Knuts, BaseDesign got the idea to launch a new series of publications with Lido. The first, Fashion, is an edition showcasing the work of Belgian photographer Serge Leblon.
The book revolves around Leblon’s work for fashion houses and designers including Veronique Branquinho, Hermès, Sonia Rykiel, and Chanel. Also included in Fashion an insightful interview between Serge Leblon and film/TV director Loïc Prigent.
Serge Leblon began his career far removed from the fashion world, as a news photographer covering the Lebanon war from the front. Perhaps this experience has contributed to the aesthetic of his fashion images, which balance life with abandonment, a zest for living with plain melancholy.
Leblon’s subtle play with soft-focus and light give his subdued images a gritty, dreamlike atmosphere, and an awkward, contemporary romanticism in sparkling colors. Images that are at once rough and tender, revealing and mysterious, with one foot in reality and the mind completely elsewhere.
Serge Leblon’s images intrigue, charm, and slowly work their way into your subconscious.
