PLASTIC BEACH: GORILLAZ ARE BACK

Plastic Beach the new album from Gorillaz, will be released by Parlophone on 8 March, 2010.

The album is lead by a single Stylo (featuring Mos Def and Bobby Womack) which will be available for download from January 26^th. The single is Zane Lowe’s “Hottest Record In The World”. Confirming Stylo, Murdoc Niccals twittered, “A leak! A leak! Plastic Beach has sprung a leak! One of those Russian pirates has put a bullet hole in my island! My single's leaked! STYLO!”

Five years on from the release of Demon Days, Murdoc Niccals and co. return with Gorillaz. The band have taken up residence, recording on a secret floating island deep in the South Pacific, a Plastic Beach HQ, made up of the detritus, debris and washed up remnants of humanity. This Plastic Beach is the furthest point from any landmass on Earth; the most deserted spot on the planet.

Plastic Beach is produced by Gorillaz. The album contains contributions from Lou Reed, Mark E Smith, Bobby Womack, De La Soul, Snoop Dogg, Mick Jones, Paul Simonon, and others.

"A leak! A leak! Plastic Beach has sprung a leak! One of those Russian pirates has put a bullet hole in my island! My single's leaked! STYLO!", aldus bassist Murdoc Niccals over het lekken van de nieuwe Gorillaz single op internet. Stylo (feat Mos Def en Bobby Womack) is de voorloper van het album Plastic Beach en vanaf dinsdag 26 januari te downloaden. Vanwege het uitlekken, gaat de single vandaag naar radio.

Vijf jaar na de release van Demon Days zijn  Murdoc Niccals en co terug met Gorillaz. De band heeft naar eigen zeggen het nieuwe album Plastic Beach opgenomen op een drijvend eiland in de Stille Oceaan geheel bestaand uit aangespoeld afval, oftewel een Plastic Beach Head Quarters. Dit plastic eiland is het verste punt vanaf het continent en de meest verlaten plek op aarde.

Gorillaz, opgericht in 1998, is de grootste geanimeerde band ter wereld met inmiddels wereldwijd 12 miljoen verkochte exemplaren van de albums Gorillaz (2000) en Demon Days (2005). De band had een nummer 1 hit in meer dan 10 landen en kreeg verschillende onderscheidingen waaronder Grammy's, VMA's en EMA's.

Het nieuwe album Plastic Beach komt op 8 maart uit. De eerste single Stylo is door BBC's Zane Lowe al de 'hottest record in the world' genoemd. De return van de Gorillaz gaat gepaard met een uitgebreid artikel in Q Magazine van deze maand met een custom made cover.
