GRAANMARKT13 PRESENTS 'BY GENTUCCA BINI'
By gentucca bini is the new project of Italian fashion designer Gentucca Bini. It comes from the need to establish and intensify the relationship with the objects. Gentucca Bini mixes her style with the style of different fashion designers: re-branding becomes a renovation act. Placing her style over a different brand, a style which will change every season, like in a prêt-à-porter collection, Gentucca gives new life to past fashion collections, producing slight but incisive changes, to respect their history, to re-create a relationship between the customer and the product, to start again from fashion, from the act of its birth, to interact with the past and make it fashionable again, to ensure the future and protect the memory, to make the product more personal and unique, without forgetting the funny aspect and the irony.
11.06.2010 and 12.06.2010 from 10.30AM until 6PM
Bring your designer clothing, during these two days Gentucca Bini will be present at her installation with three colleagues to give new life to your old designer pieces!

VISIONARY AFRICA & HERITAGE @ BOZAR
This summer will see an explosion colour and vitality as the DR Congo and 16 other African countries celebrate 50 years of independence. The Centre for Fine Arts is organizing a festival as only it can, bringing to Brussels the greatest names in the performing and the visual arts: Rokia Traoré, Angélique Kidjo, Didier Awadi, legendary choreographer Germaine Acogny, and many more artists who fuse excellence of form with social engagement.
As if that were not enough, this ambitious project proposes a new vision for our cultural relations with Africa. That is why BOZAR and the Royal Museum for Central Africa in Tervuren have joined hands to
forge a new and long-term collaborative project at the Centre for Fine Arts. The fascinating GEO-graphics exhibition will be the initial laboratory for this project, and all the artists invited to festival will be asked to join in discussions and share their thoughts on this Visionary Africa during their ‘48 Hours in Brussels’.
Tomorrow’s Africa? Find it today at the Centre for Fine Arts!

The revelation of the Festival d'Avignon 2009, Pitcho Womba Konga has moved into the big league. In Avignon he played Sizwe Banzi, the eternal exile, in the anti-apartheid play of the same name. The role seemed to be tailor-made for this Schaarbeek/Schaerbeek rapper, who likes to "talk about the poor in the language of the poor". His Héritage project at the Centre for Fine Arts looks at the bonds between Belgium's Africans and the continent of their origins, while raising questions about the acceptance of identity and social integration and exploring the relations between different cultures. He is joined onstage by the cream of Congolese urban music in Belgium: Fredy Massamba, BD Banx, and Pegguy Tabu, son of the great Tabu Ley Rochereau.

WIELS - REHABILITATION
Three years after the inauguration of the renovated brewery which now hosts Wiels, this exhibition thematizes its new function as a centre for contemporary art in a building that was conceived for a totally different function.
The title of the exhibition can be understood in different ways: as the “rehabilitation” of the unrecognized architect Adrien Blomme, of Modernism in general or of a building which, after twenty years of decay, was saved, almost clinically, from its downward spiral of neglect and decrepitude.
Ten artists who are inspired by the ideas, forms and aspirations of early radical Modernism were asked to respond to the phenomenon of rehabilitation or refurbishment of old [modernist?] buildings. As a result, while not necessarily site-specific to the Blomme building or its history, the artists nevertheless reacted to the architecture of Wiels, its spaces and symbols with a project in line with their artistic practice. The exhibition thus provides an overview of a generation of young artists’ interest and fascination with the production processes of forms and ideas, as well as with the social function of art – through direct or indirect references to icons of modernist architecture and design which they integrate in their work.
Participating artists: Leonor Antunes, Alexandra Leykauf, David Maljkovic, Manfred Pernice, Tobias Putrih, Falke Pisano, Pia Rönicke, Oscar Tuazon, Armando Andrade Tudela, Up (Koenraad Dedobbeleer, Kris Kimpe)
