The next exhibition at The Royal Museums of Fine Arts of Belgium has the
objective to present the early creative efforts of Stanley Kubrick, one
of the leading filmmakers of the 20th century. Kubrick was interested
in all aspects of human experience. He explored the entire range of
cinematographic possibilities to express how human violence can
transform an individual to such an extent that he or she is reduced to a
mask.
With the Kubrick exhibition, the Royal Museums of Fine Arts of Belgium invites visitors on a discovery of the relation of American society to photography.

Sigur Rós Valtari - New album released on 28th May
Sigur Rós will return with their sixth studio album, Valtari, on 28th May. The first track from Valtari, entitled ‘Ekki Múkk’, is now streaming on the band’s website – www.sigurros.com. Valtari will be released on double LP, CD and digital download. Valtari is Sigur Rós’s first studio album since 2008’s acclaimed Með suð í eyrum við spilum endalaust, marking the end of their indefinite hiatus. It is either the album they always wanted to make, or the album they almost didn’t make, depending on how you look at it.
Taken together, the eight songs on this 54-minute album feel like an alternative musical path the band didn’t take after 2002’s untitled ( ) album. Frequently bereft of formal structures, and for large stretches of time more atmospheres than songs, the work – which the band have described as sounding “like an avalanche in slow motion” – offers a counterpoint to Sigur Rós’s steady yet unconscious migration towards public acceptance (either via ‘sound-bed’ ubiquity or use as emotional shorthand in this or that movie.)
Sigur Rós are: Jón Þór Birgisson (vocals, guitar), Georg Holm (bass), Kjartan Sveinsson (keyboards/piano), Orri Páll Dýrason (drums). Valtari was recorded by the band at Sundlaugin Studio, Mosfellbaer, Iceland

Today I'm going to talk about a discovery I made and I'm very proud of.
The band is called « Willow » and is simply the best Belgian band I heard for a while !
I'm listening to tons of sounds every week, and well I often fall on some « great » bands. But to be honest, many of those great bands are already forgotten the next week.
But once in a while, there's that one band I'm pretty sure I'll still be listening to months from that moment ! Jackpot !
So why is Willow that awesome ? Because firstly they don't sound « belgian ». Not that I don't like belgian sounds, but it's clearly often « too recognizable ». When I heard « We the young » for the first time I just told myself « My gosh what a splendid new british band » !
Seriously after now numerous listenings I can't stop myself thinking that these guys are some kind of « White Lies with guts ! ». And I'm fond of White Lies !
Sincerely the opening title « Gold », is what it says ! Golden ! Punchy, catchy, sunny, whatever, awesome ! And the big surprise, the rest of the LP is nearly as good.
And nearly as good is already way above 80% of the other bands releasings !
There are several real pop jewels on this record, so it would be a crime to forget mentionning « Weeping giants » , «We walk alone » or « Two children ».
My last words will be in french because I think it sounds so much better : Ces gars, c'est vraiment mon coup de coeur du moment !

A chacune son Brillant - Marc Lagrange & Delvaux!
Marc Lagrange portrays Delvaux fans for a great cause.
Delvaux and Marc Lagrange, a famous belgian photographer have joined forces in aid for a wonderful project.
In fact, Lagrange will be portraying fans of the House of Delvaux with their Brillant bag: the most timeless icon in the Delvaux collection. Not common place portraits, but art photographs that will reflect the personalities of these ladies in Lagrange’s unique style.
Initially, Lagrange’s exclusive photographs will be exhibited in various Delvaux shops. It will be an opportunity for visitors to appreciate the new service ‘A chacune son Brillant’, where clients will have the chance to order their own bespoke Brillant bag. Clients will be offered a choice of 5 types of leather and two finishes. They will also be able to decide whether they would prefer the accessory in palladium or gold, how they would like their initials executed and in which size. A kind of tailor-made Brillant.
Eventually, the ‘Brillant’ portraits will be auctioned and the proceeds donated to the Mimi Foundation, which helps cancer patients maintain their dignity in order to help them fight the disease more effectively. This auction will take place during the gala dinner of the Mimi Foundation at the Arsenal, Delvaux’s Brussels studio, in September.

TRISTESSE CONTEMPORAINE (FR - DIRTY - LIVE) (NEW ALBUM release party)
Through friendship and compatibility, Narumi, Léo and Maik decided to start a band in 2009. They soon needed to record in order to back up their spontaneous ideas, their imagination and their powerful drafts. The demos resulting from their recording sessions were like nothing before although they were clearly inspired by the Talking Heads (Fear of Music), Young Marble Giant (Collossal Youth) and The Cure (17 seconds). Then they had to find a name. Whilst looking through an old bookshop, Léo came across a book called La tristesse contemporaine by Hippolyte Fierens Gevaert – a book on the main moral and intellectual movements of the 19th century. Tristesse Contemporaine was a French band of foreigners, a group of “back seat drivers” as they called themselves. Tristesse Contemporaine was a band of migrants, modern drifters.
PILOOSKI (Discodeine, Dirty Edits) mixed their first album which has been released by Dirty, revealing the power of instant classics such as In the Wake, Hierarchies or I didn’t Know, capturing the time to ignite. With the stage as their best ally, Tristesse Contemporaine will be touring in the year 2012.”

The work of Samuel François conveys a hidden beauty of everyday objects through a playful and surrealist vision.

BIP2012, the Liege International Biennale of Photography and the Visual Arts celebrating its 8th birthday in 2012, will explore the multi-faceted theme of “IMAGES OF LOVE, LOVE OF THE IMAGE” on display at seven exhibitions, two of which will be in the public space.
